Barnard College offers the following approved study abroad programs:

If you plan to study abroad during the summer, please consult the Office of the Registrar's course approval information and visit its website.

The Dean for Study Abroad signs Summer Course Approvals for any summer study abroad program after you have obtained approval from the German department for the class/es taken abroad.

Additional information about the Fubis summer program can be found at the Columbia General Studies Study Abroad website which lists all approved summer programs.

Travel Grant Opportunities

[1] Work Immersion Study Program (WISP) in Germany

A cooperative program with the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and the Goethe-Institut, specifically designed to provide American community college students with intensive German language training and internships at German companies. Duration: 3 months, June - August.

[2] Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program for Young Professionals
Scholarship program with strong focus on the cultural experience, designed to give participants understanding for life, education, and professional training in Germany. Intended primarily for young adults (18-24) in business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields. Duration: 12 months.

[3] Fulbright Scholar Program Administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars eg. Fulbright U.S. Student Program Grant to study in Austria or Germany

[4] The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) International Study Abroad Scholarships

A nonprofit, nongovernmental, educational organization founded in 1947 with the mission of developing educational exchanges and fostering international understanding. Today, with programs in 34 countries on six continents, the Council offers a wide range of international programs and services for students, faculty, and the general public. The Council is headquartered in New York with additional offices in Berlin, Bonn, Hong Kong, Kyoto, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Singapore, and Tokyo. Council's travel division, Council Travel, offers a full range of travel services at 41 offices located on or near college campuses across the U.S. Council Travel also has offices in France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Employment and internship opportunities are listed by position and by location. MSU is a member of CIEE. Current scholarships offered include:
